Graffiti?
Graffiti can increase fear and safety concerns. It is a crime that impacts the property owners and our communities. The cost to owners can be hundreds or thousands of dollars. The victims of this crime are left to deal with the clean-up and/or repair of their property AT THEIR EXPENSE. If graffiti on private property has been reported to the City, the property owner may receive a Request for Removal Letter as well as a potential fine of $250 if it is not removed within the required time.
If left on property, typically more graffiti will occur. Research shows removing it within 24 hours will deter it from re-occurring in the same location. Reporting graffiti helps the RCMP find the people responsible. Charges for those individuals can include criminal charges for property damage/vandalism, and can also include a City of Red Deer Community Standards Bylaw fine of $2500 for a 1st offence, $5,000 for a 2nd offence, and $7500 for 3rd & subsequent offences. |
