Graffiti?

Graffiti can increase fear and safety concerns. It is a crime that impacts the property owners and our communities. The cost to owners can be hundreds or thousands of dollars. The victims of this crime are left to deal with the clean-up and/or repair of their property AT THEIR EXPENSE. If graffiti on private property has been reported to the City, the property owner may receive a Request for Removal Letter as well as a potential fine of $250 if it is not removed within the required time.  

If left on property, typically more graffiti will occur. Research shows removing it within 24 hours will deter it from re-occurring in the same location. Reporting graffiti helps the RCMP find the people responsible. Charges for those individuals can include criminal charges for property damage/vandalism, and can also include a City of Red Deer Community Standards Bylaw fine of $2500 for a 1st offence, $5,000 for a 2nd offence, and $7500 for 3rd & subsequent offences.  
  1. Report graffiti in progress to 9-1-1.
  2. Report graffiti on your property to the RCMP non-emergency line at 403-406-2200 or on the RCMP Online Reporting Tool.
  3. ​Report graffiti that is on City property to the City's Report a Problem online tool. 
  4. If graffiti is on private property, a neighbours property, or a business please tell them. If you report graffiti on private property thru the Report a Problem link, they could end up with a notice and a fine of $250.
  5. Take a picture of the graffiti and submit it to the CACPC Graffiti Database as a record that the RCMP have access to.
  6. On private property, you are responsible to remove the graffiti. The CACPC has graffiti removal product that actually works! Research shows that graffiti removed within 24 hours reduces the probability of re-occurring in the same location. 
  7. If graffiti is on a garbage bin behind your business, contact the garbage removal company. Tell them your bin is graffiti'd and request a clean one.

The Downtown Business Association sponsors graffiti cleaning events for the downtown and offers free kits to downtown businesses who wish to clean the graffiti themselves.

  • Safewipes are best for smooth surfaces such as doors, vinyl siding, vinyl fencing, windows, vehicles, utility boxes, etc.
  • After dissolving graffiti with Safewipes, it is recommended to use a damp soapy cloth to remove the grime.

  • This product is best applied with a paintbrush and/or scrub brush to get into the surface pores. Let sit for 2 minutes, and repeat. 
  • It may take 2 or 3 applications before all of the paint is removed as some spray paint colours are more difficult to remove than others.
  • Spray with clean water to remove the product and the grime.
  • Be sure to wear gloves, goggles and appropriate clothing as the product may stain.
